SASO Deadline Extension: Mandatory Unified Charging Ports for Electronics
SASO extended the grace period for standardizing charging ports until May 1, 2026. After this, non-compliant devices will be rejected on SABER.
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has issued a vital update regarding the transition to standardized charging ports for electronic devices. Following the adoption of updated standards SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023, the authority has announced a final extension for compliance.
Grace Period and Enforcement
While the original transition period was slated to conclude at the start of 2026, SASO has officially extended the grace period until May 1, 2026. This date marks a hard deadline for manufacturers and Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to align with the new technical requirements.
After the May 1 deadline, the following enforcement protocols will take effect:
Certificate of Conformity (CoC) Restrictions: No new CoCs will be issued for products that do not feature the standardized charging port.
Shipment Rejections: Any request for a Shipment Certificate based on a CoC issued prior to May 2026 will be rejected if the product does not meet the updated standards.
Affected Product Categories
The regulation applies to a wide range of portable and peripheral electronic devices, specifically:
Computing & Input: Keyboards and computer cursors (mice).
Audio & Entertainment: Digital cameras, speakers, and portable speakers.
Navigation & Connectivity: Portable navigation systems and wireless routers.
Reading Devices: E-readers.
