Saudi Arabia: Laptop USB Type-C Charging Ports Mandatory from 1 April 2026
Saudi Arabia mandates USB Type-C ports on laptop computers from April 1, 2026, compliance via SASO/SABER.
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), in coordination with the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), has announced that selected electronic devices sold in Saudi Arabia must feature USB Type-C charging ports. This initiative aligns with international best practices and aims to improve user experience, enable high-quality charging and data transfer, and reduce electronic waste.
The requirement is being implemented in two stages:
Stage 1 – Already implemented and effective from 1 January 2025: Mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable video game consoles, headphones, earphones, speakers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems, and wireless routers.
Stage 2 – Effective from 1 April 2026: Laptops (portable computers).
Compliance with this regulation is mandatory for market access, and products will be enforced through the SABER conformity assessment system, requiring valid Product and Shipment Certificates of Conformity.
Key requirements
Devices must physically feature USB Type-C as the charging interface.
Products must meet relevant SASO technical regulations and standard specifications.
Conformity must be documented in technical files and certificates submitted via SABER.
Non-compliant products will be blocked from customs clearance or subject to enforcement action.
Businesses should review all affected products to ensure USB Type-C compatibility, update technical documentation and conformity declarations, submit Product and Shipment Certificates via the SABER platform, coordinate with suppliers to adapt non-compliant products, adjust inventory to avoid placing non-compliant stock on the Saudi market, and monitor SASO updates for further guidance.
