Requirements for Importing Leather Products Into Saudi Arabia
Technical Regulation Scope
The Technical Regulation for Leather Products, set by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), ensures the safety and quality of such products and materials in the Saudi market.
This technical regulation applies to all leather and leather-containing products imported or manufactured for the Saudi Arabian market, including:
Natural Leather
Synthetic Leather
Mixed Leather
Certification Requirements
The importer is required to obtain SABER Product Certification. SABER certification must be issued by a SASO-notified Certification Body, such as XDS Solutions.
Assessment requirements:
Test reports issued by an accredited laboratory
These specific product types also need a factory audit: Products intended for children aged <36 months
Labelling Requirements for Leather Products
General
- Label firmly attached (sewn/glued) and not easily removable
- No misleading wording, prohibited phrases, or offensive content
- All the information contained in the labels shall be correct and proven
Language
- Language must be in Arabic (or Arabic & English)
Identification
- Product description/name
- Model name/number
- Trademark/brand or manufacturer’s name
Country of Origin
- In the format of "Made in [Country]"
Leather Type
- Type of leather
Components
- Components should be shown
Classification
- Classification and date of manufacturing (for synthetic leather)
- Classification and date of tanning (for tanned leather)
Quantity
- Number of pieces in the package
Warnings/Instructions
- Any warnings/instructions for use (if applicable)
Standard
- Any additional markings required as per the applicable product standard(s)
